Although her Midwest-doctor husband whisked her away to the hinterlands of Minnesota years ago, Christa Worrell’s roots run deeply Southern: Spanish moss, shrimp & grits, three glubs of Tabasco sauce. A graduate of Tulane University Engineering (her mama made her do it) and Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, Christa now juggles fiction writing, yoga classes, and ultrasound exams at her vet clinic. As a worshiper of books, she bows before the altars of Truman Capote, Rebecca Wells, and Donna Tartt.
For Christa, life’s simple pleasures include coffee served in bed, Mexican lunch with girlfriends, and the company of her furry assistants—a mouthy Standard Poodle and one crotchety, old cat. But the holy grail of her existence involves stumbling upon a perfect fairy ring of morel mushrooms dancing around a dying elm. Only then will she crack open the Chateau Margaux.
